There are four ways to reach the city center from Budapest Airport: the express bus, taxi, bus, or train. You also have the option to rent a car without a driver. The train station is close to Terminal 1, which is not operational right now. You can ride a public bus to get there. The train does not operate at night, so if you arrive in Budapest at night, your only option is to ride a bus or taxi to reach the city center.
Taking the Express Bus
You can reach the center by taking the express bus N100E within 45 to 60 minutes. The ticket will cost you around 2.70 Euros. Purchase the ticket at the transport company located in terminal 2B, or you can buy it from the driver. For this ride, you cannot use the transport cards.
Budapest Airport Shuttle
The airport shuttle N200E will take you to the nearest metro station, and it will only take 30 minutes. But sometimes, due to traffic and congestions, the travel time may increase. You can buy the tickets at the newsstands in the terminals, using the special ticket machines or at the post office located at Terminal 2.
You can also take the airport bus No990 at night time with a 30 minutes interval. The bus passes to Bajcsy-Zsilinszky metro station.
Train from Budapest Airpor to the City Central
Hungarian State Railways (MAV) manages the regular rail services. Some trains are going through the train station close to Terminal 1, and these trains make a stop in Budapest. If you take the train from the airport, the travel time from Budapest airport to the city center is 30 minutes. You can purchase the ticket on the ticket machine, newsstand inside the Terminal, or from the driver. The train operates only at day time.
Transfer from Budapest Airport to City Proper
If you think public transport does not provide the comfort you are looking for, you can book a taxi. This is very helpful if you are arriving at night as there are no other transportation available during that time. Most of the time, taxis are taken by families traveling with small children and those with large luggage. The travel time from the airport to the city center is 35 minutes, and it will cost you around 37 Euro in the economy-class car and around 53 Euro if you take the minibus that can accommodate seven passengers.
